ident blog
the type of ident produced is greatly affected by the type of channel it is produced for ranging from “syfy’s” use of colour and style is applied by the content of the channel, this idea of the idents use of colour and textures create the sense of science within the channels creation for instance the channel promotes the idea of creativity thus by making the setting plain white the creation of colour is all about the power of imagination, this idea is key in creating the best way of conveying ideas to the audiencethough small pieces of media that will stand in the audiences mind.
idents can also rang to the bazar for instance the program “sumo” uses idents created by Cyriak Harris an animator famous for his quirky animations especially in the online community because of this it creates a complimentary loop hole as the people who watch these animations also watch sumo tv and will instantly recognise the creative stylings of t his thus bringing in more viewers to the program creation a gratification based viewing style.

multi camera production - evaluation
Multi camera production
Production job: Camera operator
When we were split into our separate groups at first I was worried as all the people in my group as I had never worked with and didn’t normally hang around with, also our project was about a subject that I had no knowledge of and didn’t really like, Sports.
Our initial idea was a very football orientated show with the set design that reminded this one of a child’s football themed bedroom with its astro-turf flooring and football table, football cushions and foot ball shirts in the back ground luckily this don’t make its way into the final set design how ever the title did, “Half time pie”.
For my role of camera operator I felt happy and confident that I would professionally fulfil my role as it is not new to me as I understand how to set up a camera through its aperture, white balance, and the technical dialogue of what need to be done in order for my group to get the grades they deserve.
I didn’t just film the final piece I also filmed:
· The rubber duck race
· The fitness video advert
· Title intro sequence
Also I made the DVD cover for the fitness video.
However the role of camera operator in a studio based production is a lot different than filming on location all I had to when filming the program was set up the camera suitably for what the director wanted and let it film I felt as if I had no creative input in the filming process witch made me feel sad as the other camera operators looked bored as all we did was sit down once the camera was set up, however if we had have had creative licence over our actions it could have become to confusing for our vision mixer to handle also it wont have looked as professional.
I really enjoyed working with all of my team a lot but felt as if I wasn’t appreciated as much whether I was not open to them with quietness or for some other reason that I do not realize. I feel as if my “awkwardness” needs to be overcome to make me more confident to my group and make sure my groups in the future to acknowledge my work.
I felt that the set design and the fact we got a professional hockey player in to the program make me very proud to be part of the team especially the football tee-shirt material for the back wall for our studio which was found with Craig.
The filming of the program its self felt as if it went very smoothly but our guest spoke extremely quietly and our presenters had only just read the script so they might not have felt so sure or confident in reading the script however the worst thing was the fact the autocue was in operational due the beam splitter grass breaking from falling of the tripod over night also some people in our group couldn’t come to the production these hiccups worried me that we might not get good enough grades for the production also for our creative input to be hindered
film blog - Donnie Darko
Active and uses and gratification model
An audience can perceive what they are viewing in different ways; one way is the idea that the audience is active. This means that the viewer is responding to the film for example, feeling positive about an aspect of a film reinforces the pleasure of seeing content; this creates a desire of the individual making them actively seek out something other than the content. Also as an active viewer they can doubt/agree the options of the film, for example in Donnie Darko I was an active viewer because I wanted to see the ideas of the individual questioning time travel. I also invested into Donnie’s character and I feel privileged to see into his world and to see the struggles and fears he faces, the fact that I actively wanted an aspect and gained it in return makes me an active viewer.
In Donnie Darko if the viewer is interested in the philosophy of time and space travel then the viewer is actively engaging with the film thus the viewer wants to be more active, this can relate to the uses and gratification model which suggests that the audiences individually take something from a film for their own satisfaction. The gratification model is the idea that every viewer is individual and watch media for their unique needs, such as their own entertainment/extra information/social interaction/personal identity.
Passive and Hypodermic needle Model
On the other hand the audience can be passive to a film, this suggests that the viewer cant distinguishes fact from fiction. The director’s morals are the morals the viewer does take. This can be seen if a film states something is the best the viewer will see that the film states what is the best and wont question it even if alterative meanings are better . I see that the director of Donnie Darko wanted to show the main character question free will and make ourselves question it, this shows that the film makes the audience believe what the director wants is true.
This idea about Passive viewers can relate to the hypodermic needle model, this is the idea that the viewer is “injected” with the idea of the media to know what is right and what is wrong, however it states that there is no individual that will interpret the same idea in the same way. In Donnie Darko he questions fate and has the idea that we are set upon a pathway that is predetermined but we are able to move throughout fate but still in confinement of this pathway. Even though if he chooses to stay on the path he has made where he has a girlfriend, instead by following Frank through time, he chose to stay in his bed to die this is the morale that was injected into me.
Preferred reading
Something that relates to passive and active audiences is preferred reading.
A preferred reading is the idea that the directors’ messages and lessons are accepted and deemed true to the viewer and with confidence and understanding. In Donnie Darko one issue is racism, in the film a female Chinese individual is racially abused by fellow class mates, however Donnie steps up to her defence telling others to leave her alone and consolidating her, however she constantly tells others to “shut up” after talking to her, even to Donnie. The preferred reading is that Donnie is not racist and is right for standing up for her even though she harshly replies back, this shows Donnie’s emotions and values.
A negotiated reading is that the viewer agrees with the directors ideal but can see things in their own way to oppose this idea, a negotiated reading is that Donnie is right to stand up for her but shouldn’t as she tells him to shut up and doesn’t seem accepting of his kindness.
An alternative reading is that the ideal of the viewer is opposed to the directors intentions without reasoning this idea is the individuals own, an example would be that Donnie is wrong for standing up for the female as she isn’t thankful or appreciated of his defence of her as she cruelly tells him to shut up.
pre- and post-viewing experiences
Pre and post viewing experience are the feelings and emotions portrayed before and after watching a film this can start with a trailer that sparks interest an individual may seek out other people’s thoughts of this film and may talk about expectations.
The Idea that the individuals wants and desires are based on our own individualistic traits, personality’s and experiences thought our lives (race, society , age, religion) this affects our pre viewing experiences. My pre-viewing experience of Donnie Darko was effected by the time and context I watched the film in because it was very late and dark and it was a treat to stay up and watch it, this made me excited to see the film because my mum said it was very good. I had a positive pre-viewing experience.
After watching a film our post experiences evolve our own thoughts and the exchange of ideas though our peers. Other things can affect our first viewing like buying the DVD making our ideas change by having a deeper knowledge of what happens in the film this intern makes us wait for sequels to arrive so we can carry on our interests in the film. After Donnie Darko, I told my mum I enjoyed the film and was able to interact about the film, this made my whole viewing experience positive because we both had watched the film and enjoyed it. My mum then bought me the DVD for my birthday, I then watched the uncut version which had new aspects of the film, this version was easier to understand than the one I had seen on TV.
the purpose and nature of ident design
On television and in films idents are used mainly to show either the company or organisation that made the product for the consumer but there are deeper meanings in these benign small animations.
Identity
When a company make their ident they show their morals through colour and sound that will appeal to our sub-conscious, for instance the Mc Donald’s idents evolution when their “I’m lovin’ it” campaign began with that distinctive tune (that can not be mistaken for anything other than Mc Donald’s) being played with some one saying “I’m lovin’ it”. After a while we as the audience recognise that tune and say their motto, this shows how a 10 second animation can instantly be embedded into our minds. The colours in an ident have meaning as well, using the Mc Donald’s ident again you can de construct it to its core elements. The colour scheme of yellow on red, both of which are primary colours associated with children and children are a sign of innocence, suggests the company can be trusted as they are innocent. As for their logo if you see their massive golden M you know through seeing it as a child that its Mc Donald’s. This has occurred as they have used the same logo for generations and as a consumer we recognize that it represents cheap fast food that is in a family friendly environment.
Packaging
A company’s logo is like a seal of approval and the fact that they are proud of their product an example of this is Apple, a company that specialises in next generation electronics that range from phones, computers, tablets, computing programs and personal music systems. On all their products is their iconic apple logo in which we see simplicity and trust. This continues on all of their product’s packaging. With the i-pod shuffle the packaging is the pure white box that has the smooth rounded edges that all their products have, also the text on this box is in a simplistic style which doesn’t draw attention away from the product and contains the product and contents of wires, instruction and headphones in a way that is sophisticated and has enough space for an apple logo sticker. This is ingenious and all of this is reflected in their logo.

Re-packaging
in 1976 apple logo was reminiscent of todays modern apple logo featuring the same apple logo but formed in a rainbow pattern at the time apple made a range of computers that had the same bold colours that made them exiting and beautifulbut when they wanted to promote the company as a more sophisticated company the opted for the same logo but in a solid black colour and there products main theme was for a mor corperate style products.
scheduling
on telivision idents are used to remind you which programe your watching at that time so it reinforces you trust in the station, also when the ident is played some one will tell you what is coming next.
sheduling affects sponssers idents as well as you wouldn’t promote motor bikes with a childrens cartoon.
